Cut up a Blazer for This Amazing Look!

In this tutorial, we’re going to be cutting a blazer up and transforming it to make a trendy and chic new one-shoulder piece.

Tools and materials:

  • Blazer
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Pins
  • Diagonal seam tape
  • Tape measure
Marking the blazer

1. Mark the blazer

Mark a diagonal line across one of the shoulders of the blazer.

2. Cut the blazer

Proceed to cut along this line.

3. Cut the second layer

Continue to mark and cut the inside of the blazer.

4. Pin the hem

Next, fold the edges of the jacket over a little bit and pin them down to create a hem.

Sewing on seam tape

5. Sew on seam tape

Cut diagonal seam tape to the length of the open jacket sizes and sew it around the hem.

Making shoulder strap

6. Make a shoulder strap

Then make a shoulder strap with the diagonal tape. Pin it to the front and the back of the blazer, and then sew it down.

Here is the finished look. I’m wearing a pink top underneath to tie in with the seam tape. I love the asymmetrical design with one full sleeve and one strappy sleeve and how my shoulder is fully exposed.
