So, I made the loveliest winter occasion dress, from a gorgeous crepe backed satin. It was made for a family party in a dream castle. But I'm going to share how to style it two ways, as a fancy occasion dress and also a great way to wear it with with flat leather boots and a leather jacket for an edgy everyday look!!

Swishy and feminine!!

How fabulous is this crepe backed satin? This Navy blue is truly classic and is the perfect partner for the pattern I chose!!

The perfect pattern pairing was the By Hand London Alix dress and you can find the pattern here!

The dress is actually really simple to make as it has no fastenings what so ever, how amazing is that? No zips. button holes or even snaps. It simply pops over your head and cinches in at the waist with lovely long ties. But, lets not get carried away just yet!! The first step is to stitch the front bodice sections to the sleeves at the shoulder. Once that's done the back is also stitched on to the sleeve.

Once the back and front bodice sections are stitched onto the sleeves we have to attach the yoke piece, you can see in this image, all those pieces are stitched to the yoke. We need to press this nice and flat next, then flip it all right side out.

The next step is to stitch the waist piece on below the front bodice pieces and the front lower yoke. You can see in this image that's what I have done and I've pinned the pleats in place in the front skirt sections. We're going to stitch those in place now as we attach the skirt.

Here you can see we're attaching the waist ties by sandwiching them between the front and back sections and stitching the side seams. Almost done now just the hem to stitch and we're ready to rock!!

There we go all finished!! I hope you love my dress as much as I do? Here I've styled it with some cute kitten heels and I'm standing in front of a castle door. I actually made this to wear for my grand daughters christening!!

But for a cute edgy everyday look here I've styled it with some chunky boots and my trusty leather jacket!!
