How to Do the Perfect Half-Up Half-Down Hairstyle

I love switching up my hairstyles to add some variety into my routine. You're probably already super familiar with the half-up half-down style where a section of hair is pulled into a smaller ponytail and the rest of your hair is left down. I've been doing this style for years but just learned a new trick that helped me master the perfect portions every single time!

Start with your hair down. You will need a comb with a styling tail to create nice lines. Here's one I use.

Find the place where your hair meets the top of your ear.

Take the styling tail from your comb and carve a line straight up towards the top of your head and collect this half of your hair. I use a small clip to keep in place. Do the same on the opposite side, gathering the hair between the top of your ear to the top of your head.

Now brush this hair into your half up pony tail and fix the front portions of your hair by smoothing them out with your comb or a boar bristle brush to make it super smooth and neat.

Take an elastic that is appropriately sized for this smaller ponytail and secure it. For my fine hair, I like to use these elastics.

This is the final look for this hairstyle! It creates the perfect proportions and looks good from all angles. Now you'll never have to worry about where to section your hair for a half up half down style. This style also makes it super easy to dress up by adding a clip or accessory on top of the ponytail. I love these smaller claw clips and these adorable bows to add extra detail to my look.
