DIY: Mix and Match Sweater
It seems this week is going to be about prints, it wasn't planned, it's just been a total coincidence. Anyway, today's project is a mix of prints, a mix and match. I've upcycled an old sweater using some tartan fabric I had from a skirt I cut and I've created with it numbers. Well...no more talking. Let's see how to do it.
MATERIALS
- Top- Old flowered sweater
- Thread and needle
- Tartan fabric
- Pins
- Card numbers (template)
Start by doing the template with the numbers in a card. You can even print them in any font to like. Cut the card numbers and fix them to the tartan fabric with pins. Start cutting the fabric. I must say that the tartan fabric I've used was some sort of neoprene like one, so it was perfect because I didn't have to sew a border; the fabric didn't fray.In case you use other kind of fabric you can even sew a turn-up or burn it (carefully) with a lighter.
Once we have the tartan fabric numbers, we use the pins to fix them to the sweater. If you're going to sew it by hand, use double thread, so the backstitch is harder. You can do it with the sewing machine if you prefer, it is faster, but I was looking for the light appearance of handmade stitches. Do you like it? I'll show you the complete result soon.
