Ice Tie Dye Dress
Tie dye is definite having a moment right now! It is a fun project that you can do with your kids and the possibilities are endless on things you can find to tie dye. I have been intrigued by the ice tie dye technique, so I gave it a try on one of my white sundresses. It gives you a beautiful watercolor result!
Soak the pieces in water and wring them out till they are damp.
You will need a tub/container with a rack over top to allow the ice to melt and drain. I used an aluminum casserole pan and sliced several slits in the lid. Scrunch up the damp fabric and lay it on top of the "rack" over the container.
Fully cover the fabric with ice, then apply the color. I used a powdered dye mixed with water in squirt bottles. Do not use too many colors, to keep the piece from turning brown. I used pink, blue and purple generously in sections over the piece.
Allow the ice to melt and sit for at least two hours. I let mine sit overnight, then I rinsed the dye and washed and dried the dress.
The result is a pretty watercolor design with spots that are darker in some areas and lighter in others.
