I found this skirt in my mom's closet from what I assume (I mean, check out that fabric!) was the 70's and snatched it. The pattern is to die for, but it stayed in my closet forever. Take a look, the elastic waste was completely stretched out (I am holding it up on my body with my hand), and the length was just not doing it for me.

I decided to once and for all turn it into something that I will actually wear. Now I'm no seamstress, I'm just a girl with a glue gun and a pair of scissors, so PLEASE do not judge my tailoring skills.

Measure the Waist

The first thing I did was measure how fitted I wanted the waste to be. I stuck a safety pin in the skirt while still wearing it, and then pulled it off.

This is how much needed to go!

Make Your Mark

I then found a seam running along the length of the skirt, and cut it open, so I could remove the fabric that needed to go.

Here it is wide open!

I then made a marking along the inside of the skirt where I wanted to snip off the fabric. Then I went for it! Trying as best I could to cut along a straight line.

Shortening Time

The next thing I need to tackle was the length. I put the skirt back on my body, and found a length that I liked. I then folded and pinned the fabric up to where I wanted it. I slipped the skirt off again, and cut!

Glue!

I'm a crafty person and don't sew, so hot glue it is! I grabbed my glue gun, and created a new seam to close the skirt. I did this by folding each edge of the fabric over a few centimeters, and gluing the 2 folds together. This was all done with the skirt inside out. This way, the glued fabric is not seen on the outside of the skirt.

This is what the seam looks like. I glued the skirt shut almost all the way to the bottom hem. I left about half an inch of fabric open a little slit. Some leg room, and it looks kind of cute too ;)

Tah Dah, the inside of the finished skirt! The last thing I did, was grabbed one of the extra pieces of fabric that I cut off and used it as a belt. Check it out!

New Skirt, Happy Lady!

Yes! I can finally wear this skirt and feel good in it. I'm so happy to have this as a way to feel my mom close, and heck these 70's vibes are super trendy right now. Hope you like it!
