I bought a very pretty blue dress the other day. The only problem was that the dress was 2 sizes too big for me and just looked totally shapeless and bag-like. I decided to do a little bit of work to help define the shape and I made a tutorial to show you just how I did it.
I started by turning the dress inside out and trying it on. I could then figure out exactly where I would be making my alterations to get the right fit. I decided to create two darts under the bust and so while I had the dress on I pinned the darts in place.
I then moved to my sewing machine where I sewed the two front darts in place.
I realized that the dress would look a lot more flattering if I added two darts to the back as well. When I sewed the back darts I made sure they aligned with the front ones. To sew the two darts at the back, I started at the end of the dart, worked towards the middle, and then continued to the other end.
Four simple stitches made all the difference to this dress! Let me know what you think about this quick and easy alteration in the comments!
