i am always on the look out in junk shops garage sales and auctions for bits and bobs that would be useful to be up-cycled make a good jewellery or accessory pieces. So when I saw these broken bits of crockery I was so excited about what I could make and create!

Old crockery

I decide to cut some pieces for brooch pins and look at a range of pretty designs that would work for a decorative piece.

I use wheeled tile nippers to cut the crockery up into smaller pieces.

So many pieces so many choices!

I love that it’s recycling vintage pieces that are now given a new lease of life.

Cutting and shaping

I then need to smooth and sand edges to create a nice easy to wear piece. I use a small rotary drill hand held with a sanding attachment. Goggles throughout all process from cutting and sanding to protect eyes is a must.

Small sander

The lovely china pieces begin to come to life and then it’s time to glue the pin on the back. Firstly i sand the back of the brooch to create a good bonding surface for the brooch pin to adhere to .

Sand back of brooch

I just create a rough strip to glue the pin to.

musing two part epoxy resin glue for jewellery making I mix up the two parts in equal blobs before spreading on to the back of brooch.

Mix epoxy resin

Place the pin in position on top of glue and press firmly.
