One Dress, Two Ways

Plaid isn't just for the holidays! This dress is a staple in my fall/winter wardrobe, and I am so glad the retailer has brought it back again this year. While it may be labeled a dress, there is more than one way to style this plaid number. Dress it up, dress it down. Take it out on the town, or wear it to work. You can't go wrong with this versatile piece in your closet.

The first way to wear this is, well, as a dress. The buttons are functional and the swing dress silhouette is very forgiving.

For shoes, I love to dress it up with knee-high boots. It also looks great with a pair of black over-the-knee boots. But, if this style is too dressy for you, sneakers also go well with it.

The second way to wear this dress is as an open-front cardigan. I actually get more wear out of it this way. It's a great option for work, if your office is more casual.

As you can see, it looks really cute over an all-black outfit. But, you could also do white or blue jeans. The key is to wear a solid color top or a very subtle pattern mixing, since it's long and already has a lot of pattern going on.

This dress is on sale, if you're looking to add a versatile piece to your wardrobe. Or, I encourage you to see if you have a button-up dress in your closet already that could be styled as a cardigan like this one.
