Styling a Printed Midi Skirt Multiple Ways

Do you have an item in your closet that has a print that you are just not sure of? Maybe the print is too bold? Maybe you feel like it is too hard to match with things so you usually just wear it one way? That is how I felt when I first bought this skirt from Old Navy. I thought how am I going to wear this to get the most use out of it. Then the ideas started flowing and honestly, I had to choose my favorites for this tutorial.

The first look I went with was simple and casual by pairing the skirt with a graphic tee. I wish I had a white graphic tee or even a grey one but this is all I had and it still works. I put on my black slides to balance out the darkness of the top and grabbed my denim jacket to lighten it up (but it is not needed). You can even throw on a zip up hoodie or a chunky cardigan if you prefer those over a denim jacket. You can also wear some sandals or sneakers with this look and it will still be simple and casual.

Chambray anyone? UMM yes - because chambray is the best item to have in your closet. You can basically pair a chambray top with anything (even denim). For this look, I just threw on a chambray top, tucked it in and rolled up the sleeves. I threw on some sneakers and called it a day. You can easily swap out the sneakers for sandals, flats or even heels. Add a cardigan over the chambray shirt and some heels and you are ready for the office.

Now for date night, let's take this skirt up a notch. I went with a black top again but this one has a pretty lace detailing around the neck. To balance the black, I added a classic pair of black booties and then a beige cardigan. I cuffed the sleeves and let one shoulder show to make it "fancier". You could always do a beige top or white top and then add a black sweater or even a leather jacket - a leather jacket would be so fierce (wish I owned one)! I actually love the way this outfit looks and cannot wait to wear it to dinner with my hubby!

Another simple yet classic look is to go neutral. Simply add a beige sweater and beige booties and you are done. This sweater, in particular, is a favorite of mine because it can be worn off the shoulder which gives it a sexier look! It would be even cute to swap out the booties for some heels, add a leather jacket and WHOA lady!! ... I think I need to buy a leather jacket. :)

The last look I put together is probably a go to of mine and would be perfect for the spring or summer, especially a night on a vacation by the beach (one can dream right?). Here I paired the skirt with a simple knit tank. This tank is beige which I think compliments the skirt perfectly and I threw on some basic sandals. These sandals are actually from Amazon and a dupe to the Tory Burch sandals and probably 1/8 of the price! I also draped a denim jacket over my shoulders just to add a bit more depth to the look but it would be just fine without it.

Playing with patterns is always fun. Trying new things and seeing what works and what doesn't is what fashion is about. Next time you see a pattern you like, bring it home. Mix and match pieces until you find things that make YOU happy. I am sure whatever you come up with will be great. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
