This weeks runaway refashion is all about buttons… that’s one item I am not short of! I inherited my Gran’s button box, and my mother-in-laws. There is something special about using buttons passed on down through the generations. Some of the buttons have stories attached to them, sadly lost now as the generation passes away.
I had this gorgeous crocheted blanket that I wanted to wear because the colours are so vibrant. So I decided to turn into a wearable, chic, long vest! This is the pattern of the blanket up close. Plus you can see that I folded over about 7 inches to turn that into a simple collar:

My love for flare jeans started in 7th grade, when I fell head over heels for a pair of impossibly wide flare leg jeans from JNCO - flames shooting up the legs and all!I rocked that bad boy at school the next day and soaked up the compliments - okay maybe just in my head 😆 but at least I felt cool and that's really all that matters!I still feel like a baddie when I wear them, which is why I'm pumped to see so many options available in stores again. You too?!Then read on my flare jean friends for a little inpso on how to style this silhouette.
Spring + Summer can be brutal days for heat and humidity. I am always looking for great looks that will keep me cool. After all, there's more than just cut-off shorts + bathing suits, yes??During the spring months, I definitely love to incorporate lots of color and fun statement accessories. I try and carry that out throughout the summer too...but sometimes you want to be toned down and be natural in your clothing. This is where simple closet pieces come in handy.A simple black midi dress that is simple, chic, and also made with breathable materials is key during the hottest months of the year. Most of the time I take advantage and buy a few in multiple colors. Trust me this is a good thing! And you can also take them on vacations you may have planned.Let me show you how I styled this dress in 4 different ways. SHOP THESE LOOKS
I am a huge advocate for using all of your clothes in your closet. Cardigans CAN be used for more than two or three seasons. As a matter of fact, you can wear them all year round. I found this cardigan a few seasons ago, and have been using it as a cardigan but then realized it has buttons and a tie-belt!!! What better way to re-purpose than to turn it into a dress!

Hello Friends,Today I have a simple scarf re-fashion that you can make as a Mothe's Day gift or just for yourself. I have to confess, this is not my design I stole it from my nieces who wore theirs to a family gathering. I thought that it was such a lovely idea and I wanted to try it for myself. I really like the asymmetrical way that the scarf hangs when you wear it like a poncho and the versatile way you can still wear it as a scarf. Over the years I have received several of these pretty shawl scarves and I do like wearing them but they are a little difficult to keep on if you are just wearing them as scarves. Converting them to ponchos allows you to wear them without worrying about them falling off your shoulders. So if you are like me and you have a few of these wrap/scarves laying around you may what to convert some of them too.
Summer is on its way! You may have started to think about what you’ll be wearing - cute floral mini-dresses, paper bag shorts, flowy midi-skirts, and barely-there sandals, but have you thought about what hats you’ll wear? Hats are a cornerstone of a summer wardrobe. Not only do they serve a practical purpose in keeping the sun out of your eyes, but they’re also a great accessory piece that can complete an outfit.
Spring is is in full swing and summer is just around the corner. I don't know about you but I love being able to wear staple pieces multiple ways. Best way to get the most use of your clothes! One of my favorite pieces this season is this little drop hem dress from Target. It's easy to wear, comfy and perfect for my growing bump.
This adorable babydoll dress is a spring must grab from Maurice’s. It comes in a few patterns, but this one was my favoritr. At 5’3, I am a petite/short gal, so I find I have to be careful with babydoll dresses because they can be just too baggy much and look frumpy on my frame. But this one is just right! It’s an easy outfit to throw on for work/shower/day of shopping or errands. It can be dressed up with sandals or wedges as well. I chose some cute slip ons and I threw on a cute denim jacket for cool spring mornings. All dresses are on sale right now too!
I’m going to show you how to style a midi-skirt to create some stylish Spring outfits. Midi skirts are elegant and flattering and will keep your legs cool and breezy this Spring season. Sit back, relax, pour yourself a cold drink, and let’s get started.
Pajamas ain't just for the bedroom anymore! Have you ever considered creating Pajamas that you can wear outside of the bedroom? We've witnessed this style the past few years and when I was given the opportunity to work with Stylish Fabrics (sponsored) I decided to make it happen.I used the Carolyn Pajama pattern for this project. I added 3" to the pant length because Mori would be wearing these pants with heels but I ended up removing 2" of the length in the end. I had to conceal all the seams with bias tape since I was going for the see-through look with this set. Adding the bias tape also stopped any sequins that were in the seams from touching the skin.
Grab some glue, some bracelets, embroidery floss, and some charms and have some fun with an easy DIY Bracelet project video tutorial!
If you follow me on Instagram you will have noticed I am taking part in Me Made May 2018 – it was, as is often the case, a last minute decision to take part. If you have not heard of Me Made May before you set yourself a personal challenge re wearing handmade clothes for the month of May.You can find out more here, or listen to this podcast by Love to Sew – I have only just discovered this podcast and LOVE it, I’m gradually working my way through the back episodes on my commutes to work.My personal challenge is to wear every handmade garment I have – as I only own a few garments it’s not going to be a different outfit per day. As a participant, the idea is to learn through the month, for example what shapes and colours suit you, what the gaps are in our handmade wardrobe and so on. Part way through I already know that I have been avoiding sewing plain knit tops, and trousers (pants).I have been sewing as I go – last week I made three garments, very good going as I work and have youngish children. My favourite is the free peasant top from Sew Different. I have adapted the pattern, as I love tops which you can layer – the ability to throw a cardigan on over the top is very important to me. Wide sleeves are, therefore, a bit of a no-no.
I needed an apron for gardening, so I had to figure out how to make a garden apron that would fill all my requirements. My garden apron had to be washable and have pockets to hold my seeds, twine, and garden tools.Since I enjoy gardening and will be using this apron a lot, it needed to be washable, functional, and comfortable. You can find all my sewing must-haves HERE.
