DIY Princess Polly tops

To make the Polly Princess inspired top, I would be taking this cropped tee and refashioning it.

Thrift flip an old dress

This dress is what I would be thrift flipping to get the Polly Princess inspired dress. I couldn’t wait to add the new dress to my wardrobe and, to be honest, get rid of this old dress.

The top

To kick off the first thrift flip, I turned the top inside out and started marking with a ruler and some chalk.

Cut the fabric

After a ton of measuring and marking, I could finally start snipping away at the T-shirt. I made a slit right down the middle and also cropped the top.

Upon further inspection, I realized that the neckline was too round so I made more of a v shape. I then went ahead and started pinning a tube along the inner edges of the top from one end, around the neckline, to the other side. I went ahead and sewed that tube in place.

Cut a tie

Next, I did some quick cutting to make a tie out of the scrap fabric.

I then went ahead and thread the tie through the tube and the top was complete!

Cut the dress

The dress

So to get started on the dress, I just cut the ruffled bodice off of the rest of the dress.

Trace a bikini top

To make the cups for the new dress, I used a swimsuit top as a pattern. I pinned it down and cut out the fabric with some added seam allowance.

Sew together

When it was time to sew, I sewed, wrong sides together and it gave me a really nice finish. I went on to realize that the grain of the ruffles was going different directions on each cup but I decided it would give the dress a little character and just went with it.

Trace a dress

I used a dress I had in my closet as a pattern. I traced it, pinned it, and then moved on to sew. After I had finished with the seams, I cut off the excess fabric.

Sew on the cups

Next, I went ahead and sewed on the cups

Finish the dress

At the back, I decided to pin and create a tube that I would thread elastic through. Once I had secured the elastic, all that was left to do was attach the straps and hem the dress.
