Cut your fabric to 5" x 18"
5 Minute Football Themed Scrunchie
Last year I made this college themed scrunchie for a graduation gift basket, and it's perfect for making your own football themed scrunchie for football season, the Super Bowl, or your favorite college team.
Below is the tutorial and links to materials where I can provide them. (As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.) Here’s a link to some collegiate fabrics and another link for NFL Fabrics for you to start your search if you don’t already have scrap material for your favorite team.
For the first step, fold down the edge of the fabric (the short edge) and sew it down to create a finished edge.
At this point many tutorials tell you to measure out some elastic. I don't want to fool with that, so I just use a hair tie from the dollar store. That way I know it's already the right size and it's one less thing I can mess up!
Wrap the fabric around the elastic band as shown below (wrong side of the fabric facing you). Sew down the entire length (long edge) of the fabric strip.
Here's how it will look when you've sewn all the way around.
Now turn the fabric inside out, watch the video below (less than 3 min total) if you don’t understand how to do this. Basically just poke the fabric through and “inside out” it.
Then you’ll tuck the unfinished edge (the left side of the fabric in the photo above) into the finished edge you created in step 1.
Then just sew right down to close the scrunchie.
That's it! Quick and easy. I hope you enjoy making yours and that you'll connect with me here or on my website at www.marciasocas.com
Here's a look at the finished product!
Here's the video in case that's easier for you to view.
