Ruffle Flower Headband Tutorial

If you’ve been following the blog for a while then you’ve probably picked up on the fact that I like headbands. I wear my fabric flower headband all the time and I recently made a braided headband to throw into my mix. Today I’m sharing another new headband that I made!

For this headband I decided to do something neutral so I went with a natural/taupe colored linen fabric that I had leftover from making some napkins. I love the texture of the fabric and the fraying edges.

To make your own ruffle flower headband you will need:

10 circles of fabric (My circles had a diameter of about 2 3/4 inches)
elastic to make the headband (or a ready-made headband)
hot glue gun & hot glue sticks

Step 1: Cut out your 10 circles. I drew my circles by tracing around the bottom of a cup.

Step 2: Fold one circle in half.

Step 3: Fold it in half again.

Step 4: Put a dab of glue in the corner and glue it down to the circle with the point in the middle and the edges lining up with the outside of the circle.

Step 5: Repeat steps 2-3 with another circle of fabric. Glue it onto the circle next to the first folded circle.

Step 6: Repeat steps 2-3 with another circle of fabric. Glue it onto the circle as well.

Step 7: Repeat steps 2-3 with another circle of fabric. Glue it onto the circle as well.

Step 8: Now you have covered all 4 quadrants of the circle. Repeat steps 2-3 with another circle of fabric. Glue it onto the circle in between two of the folded circles on the bottom. It should overlap half of two of the folded circles (NOT be directly on top of one).

Step 9: Repeat steps 2-3 with another circle of fabric. Glue it onto the circle in between two of the folded circles on the bottom. Repeat this step 2 more times until you have four folded circles on top of the bottom layer of folded circles.

Step 10: Put a dab of glue on one of the pieces of fabric in the middle and pinch it together with another piece of fabric in the middle. This helps avoid there being a gap in the middle.

Step 11: Cut a 20 inch piece of elastic. Overlap the ends by 1/2 inch and glue together using hot glue. Be sure your elastic doesn’t twist when you do this!

Step 12: Glue your last fabric circle to the bottom of your elastic. Then glue the flower on top of the elastic and this circle.

All done!
