Six Ways to Style and Accessorize a Blazer

A blazer is a staple of any wardrobe. Sometimes thought of as strictly for office-wear, you might be surprised how it can work for business attire as well as a fun, casual look. You can put various tops underneath and then layer on some accessories to give it a sense of your unique style and personality. Here are six ways to style and accessorize a blazer.

Types of Blazers

Blazers come in various styles, from short, cropped looks that work well with pants or skirts. Peplum cuts add a little feminine ruffle. Longer suit styles can go more formal, or try juxtaposing it against casual wear for stylish streetwear. Longer duster coats are great to put over leggings for a little extra coverage and some added drama.

For this demonstration, I’m wearing a corduroy blazer in a rich rust color, which is a favorite in my wardrobe.

Button-Down Shirt and Neck Scarf

When I want an easy, no-fuss look, I just put on a classic button-down. This creates a carefree style that has a bit of rocker chic. Ever notice how many musicians dress like this? For a more formal look, I tuck it in and add a neck scarf. It cleans up real nice!

Long Sleeve T-Shirt and Infinity Scarf

A long sleeve t-shirt easily slips under a blazer for a sleek look that doesn’t add bulk. You can add a pop of color or a fun print such as stripes or graphic design. For those days when there’s a little chill in the air, layer on an infinity scarf. It will keep your neck and chest warm while adding a little extra texture to your look.

Turtleneck and Statement Necklace

A simple black turtleneck under a blazer always creates a classic chic look. Keeping the top and bottom a solid color also serves to elongate your silhouette. Depending on the season, you can wear a thin, cotton turtleneck on warmer days or a thick, wool material in the colder months.

Add a large statement necklace in an interesting design to give some personality to the look and create a conversation starter. With the clean backdrop of a basic turtleneck, your jewelry will shine as a centerpiece.

So go ahead and reach for that blazer that you may have just reserved for business looks and see all the different ways you can style it with clothes and accessories you already have in your closet. Or add some fun new items to freshen it up!
