I love to up-cycle old stuff transforming it into loved again new pieces of unique jewellery.

I won these vintage ceramic dinnerware and cups on an online auction for bargain price and fell in love with the design.

I use wheeled tile nippers to cut them into workable pieces. Wearing protection for eyes of course.

I look at the design and work out how I can make a variety of earrings shapes and get to sanding the edges smooth with a mini hand held sander.

Sand the edges

I smooth all the way around so no sharp edges and then it’s on to drilling a hole into the ceramic for the earring fixings to go into. I use a diamond tip drill piece and have water to cool the tip down.

It takes time with drilling so patience is needed but finally the hole goes all the way through. I dry the earrings and then start to thread some silver jump rings then attach sterling silver ear wires through. Using the round nosed pliers make their easy and helps grip and twist when you need to close the rings.

I give them a clean up and hey presto all finished and ready to wear!

Making earrings

I’m so thrilled with final earrings they really are unique and it’s such a gorgeous up cycling project!

I, sadly, have a couple of broken Blue Willow plates (they're getting harder to find, and more expensive these days). So thank you for this great way to use the shards!
