With spring here and summer just around the corner, it's time we start working on projects fit for the seasons.

What does it take to make the perfect summer skirt?

Well... it has to be colorful. Check!

It has to be big and flowy. Check!

And, it has to be easy to make... check!

This skirt has it all.

Let's dive into how you can have a skirt like this of your own.

First, gather your materials.

You'll need four fabrics of different colors, your sewing machine, and matching or white thread.

Measure the length of your skirt and divide this number by four. This will be the length of each piece of fabric.

Cut out three of your four fabric choices into rectangles:

Rectangle 1: length determined previously. Width should be about 3 times your waist measurement.

Rectangle 2: length determined previously. Width should be about 10 cm more than rectangle 1

Rectangle 3: length determined previously. Width should be about 10 cm more than rectangle 2

And for the fourth fabric choice, cut this into a circle skirt using the previously determined length as well as your waist measurement.

Fold over the top of the skirt and hem, attach an invisible zipper, and finish the back seam underneath the zipper.

Now that you have a completed circle skirt, base stitch along the top of rectangle one. Use the base stitch to gather the fabric until it is short enough to equal the distance of the bottom of the circle skirt.

Pin the gathered edge of rectangle 1 to the bottom of the circle skirt and sew.

Now base stitch rectangle 2. Use the base stitch to gather the fabric until it is short enough to equal the distance of the bottom of rectangle 1.

Pin the gathered edge of rectangle 2 to the bottom of rectangle 1 and sew.

Now base stitch rectangle 3. Use the base stitch to gather the fabric until it is short enough to equal the distance of the bottom of rectangle 2.

Pin the gathered edge of rectangle 3 to the bottom of rectangle 2 and sew.

Hem the bottom of rectangle 3, and you're done!

I wasn't kidding when I said this was an easy project.

But it turns out so beautifully!

Let me know how your new skirt turns out.

Love,
