Whenever I get approached to help someone reorganize and prioritize their wardrobe I always start with the basics and a blazer is one of those.

You can wear them with jeans or cycle shorts and still look like you have pulled together an immense outfit. As you can see I have many blazers and I love them.
Tweed, linen, cotton all great fabrics to buy blazers in. If you are new to the blazer game I would recommend getting one that is a relaxed fit and in a fabric that holds up well over time and if you decide to squish it in your tote won’t completely wrinkle. I've linked a great one HERE.
Also always go for a lined blazer and don’t shy away from shoulder pads.
Another great tip is that you don’t have to spend a lot to look like you did!
Blazers are an item that you can buy (dare I say) cheap and look designer.
H&M and Zara do great ones, but I have also seen amazing ones at Forever21 and Target. Linked HERE is a super similar one to what i'm wearing in the above picture.
I’d love to see your blazer style, so make sure you tag me on instagram @style.devine !

Button-down shirts are just lovely! They make for a perfect formal outfit and give your outfit an edgier tone. What's more, it's a classic, timeless piece, so it won't ever go out of fashion. Have you ever experienced sewing FOMO? After seeing Indigo after Indigo flood my IG feed, I knew I had to give in and sew one of these gorgeously flowy dresses up for myself! Once I got my hands on this swishy Lady McElroy crepe fabric with a vintage-inspired floral pattern, I knew the two were a match made in Heaven.
Today is all about how to embroider a t-shirt. This is one of those projects you can do whenever you want to add something to a plain t-shirt. You don’t need a fancy embroidery machine to do this, and you don’t need to be a great artist. In fact, this is my #1 favorite way to preserve my kids’ art. Let’s face it, kids’ art is awesome. Bob Ross’ happy little trees had nothing on the silly people, wacky scenes, and candy colored skies that your kids create. But if you’re like me, those enthusiastically crayoned pieces of joy get lost in a basket somewhere under a bed, never to be seen or displayed. Today’s goal: taking a simple drawing and showing you how to embroider a t-shirt with your simple design. At the end, you’ll have something unique and it’s a fun basic intro to machine embroidery.
I just got back from the beach yesterday, and I'm already counting down until I get to go again in May. It truly is my happy place, especially after the year we've. I also enjoyed wearing something other than loungewear for a change. Here's a look at a few of the outfits I wore, in case you have a tropical trip on the horizon and are looking for inspo.
I found an almost perfect v-neck sweater at the thrift store. I liked the color and fit, but I didn’t like the plunging neckline. To fill the void across the chest, I added a lace up tie. It only took me a few minutes to do with a grommet kit, and there was NO SEWING required.
Let’s start with a simple way to build a mindful, slow, classical clothing closet. One of the easiest ways is by color! I picked the most accessible to most of us: black and white clothing. You can build endless outfits by mixing and matching these two colors... for work, errands or events. This color combo always looks in style and lovely on anyone: First, start with owning or finding at a good black skirt & pair of black slacks. Very versatile, plus if you purchase a well made piece, you can keep and wear for years to come. I am sporting a black pair of slacks, I’ve owned for many years and a stretch DKNY knee length skirt which is comfy and fits so well. Choose, buy or pull a few from your own closet ~ blouses: a casual white blouse, a sleeveless one, a striped, and black and white dressier number. Remember, don’t own too many of the same. Make sure each is unique, example: not 10 white short sleeve blouses all the same... Having less, well made, u inquest pieces, keeps your closet less full & extends the fashion looks! I’m showing two. One I bought at a thrift store, the other I’ve owned for years. Add jewelry you have or invest in pearls, beaded necklaces or make your own. In your collection, have least two different necklaces and earrings along with a ring and bracelet, you can interchange and mix and match. Lastly: add black flats. A must for your conscious classic closet. Make sure you clean and buff often. This extends the life of them and supports sustainable fashion and our environment! Put on a jacket or sweater cardigan to change the style immediately. Keeps you warm and stylish all in one. I’m showing a pretty red sweater I purchased several seasons back and a classy lined black jacket from a boutique thrift shop by BCG Maxazaria. Go through your closet to see what black and white pieces you currently own. Make a list of what you need, if anything and enjoy those clothes!

My husband taught me the trick to tying a cute knot in clothes a few months ago and it was life changing! The key to tying a knot that lies flat and horizontal is tie it first in one direction and then in the other direction. For example; if I first tie with the right side on top, I would next tie with the left side on top. This trick works for any dresses or tops that are button downs and it also works for tying sweatshirts or long sleeve button downs around the waist. Tying a knot adds interest and texture to an outfit. It’s also a easy way to create a flattering look by helping to narrow the waist. I love that with this trick you can turn a button down dress into a shirt, add a shirt over a dress or jumpsuit or dress up joggers by pairing it with a nicer top. You can tie a sweatshirt or long sleeve with the intention of wearing it later, as a way to cover your backside while working out or purely for fashion. I love that it adds versatility to many items in ones wardrobe!
Do you feel a bit lost when it comes to styling blazers? Have no fear, I’ve put together twelve looks with one black blazer which will provide you with plenty of inspiration.
And alas–We are updating one of our very first sewing tutorials here on the blog: How to sew a knit seam binding! Because sewing a knit binding is 1,000% different than sewing a woven binding. (As I learned quickly with this tutorial’s sewing project-- the Ilma Raglan.)I have been meaning to update this post for a while now–-pretty much all year–-but then 2020 decided to show up. And my posting schedule for the year was basically thrown out the window. Earlier this spring (for weeks on end) I was sewing our handmade face masks 10+ hours a day, nonstop. The fear of the pandemic and the immediate need for face masks (as well as the DIY tutorial) essentially shoved everything else aside.Which means.. In the midst of a 90+ degree heat wave here in San Diego, I am rewriting our post on a spring sweater that was meant to inspire some transitional weather sewing. Also, in recent weeks, it has just felt silly to pay attention to and direct my energy towards anything else but the Black Lives Matter movement.
Don’t we all love a nice flowing, forgiving, bright colored top that we can throw on and run out the door with? However, that look is quickly and easily ruined by static cling. It makes the top stick to your belly and look horrible! You can easily see is an example of this when you take a look at how this top looks on me with static cling. So embarrassing!I've provided affiliate links where I could to similar tops and to the dryer sheets in case those will be of help. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.
I’m going to share with you some of the looks that I put together using a few key pieces based on Spring 2021 trends. I put all of these looks together using what I already have in my closet. My focus is on slow fashion which is all about using creativity instead of consumption to feel stylish and put together. As you know, trends are so cyclical, and I really think these days, it’s less about following trends and more about celebrating your personal style and discovering what you enjoy wearing.
This project is super simple, and you won’t have to sew a stitch. To make this top, I used Lycra fabric because it is self-finished, which means it will not fray, so the edges do not need to be hemmed or serged. Let’s get started on making this cute DIY criss cross top.
