Make an elastic Apple watch band

Measure your wrist

I measured my wrist at the point where I wanted my watchband to lay.

Cut elastic

Then, I subtracted half an inch from that measurement and cut a piece of elastic equal to that measurement. My wrist was seven inches around, so I cut a piece of elastic that was six and a half inches in length.

Measure and mark with pins

I measured five-eighths of an inch from either end of the elastic and marked those points with pins.

Fold at the pins

Fold the ends of the elastic

I made a fold at the point where the elastic was pinned and then folded it under again.

Top-stitch along the edge

Sew it down

I top-stitched the folded end of the elastic down, as close to the edge as possible, creating a casing at the end of the elastic to insert the new hardware.

Attach the hardware to the elastic band

Once I created casings on both ends of the elastic, it was time to attach the hardware. On the underside of each of these metal pieces, there is a button that is used to detach the wristband from the watch. I wanted to make sure that the placement of this button would be on the underside of the wristband, as well.

Unscrew one small screw

To attach the elastic to the hardware, I first unscrewed a tiny screw with the screwdriver that came with my hardware, which allowed me to loosen a narrow bar.

Insert the bar into the casing

I inserted the narrow bar into the casing on the elastic, making sure the folded parts of the elastic and the underside of the hardware were facing the same direction.

Screw the hardware back together

Once the elastic was properly in place, I screwed the hardware back together.

I repeated the same steps for the other end of the elastic, and my new wristband was complete.

Attach the wristband to the watch

I removed the original wristband from my Apple watch by pressing the button on the underside of the hardware and sliding the wristband out.
