How to Make Two Types of Leopard Print Pom-Poms

Leopard prints, yarn and bright colours, what more could you want from a craft. Pom-poms are super fun and very relaxing to make, pop on your favourite show and grab your pom-pom maker, you don’t need many materials or much concentration to create pom-poms so it’s the perfect combo!

I was gifted this unusual pom-pom maker from Korbond, at first I wasn’t sure it would beat my usual pom-pom tool, I usually use the ones that open on both sides. The Korbond one however is perfect, you can create whole designs without having to stop and move to the other side, it really sped up my pom-pom making. They are also slim-line and easy to store.

I have two leopard print pom-pom designs to show your today, a simple two-tone design and a then a more traditional leopard print design.

What You Will Need

  • 2 to 3 Colours of Yarn
  • Pom-pom maker
  • Scissors

How to Make a Two-tone Leopard Print Pom-pom

The Korbond pom-pom maker is two plastic discs with a raised profile on one side. Place these two sides together and start wrapping with yarn. I double up my yarn to make the wrapping faster and I also use a lark head knot to hold the two pieces together.

Wrap your pom-pom maker with a layer of yarn, I chose green, secure the loose yarn by tucking it under the last wrap. Take your next colour and start wrapping various size sections, you can use a continuous length of yarn to save time. Do another layer of your original colour and then add a few more sections of yarn on top of that.

Take some sharp scissors and cut open your pom-pom, double up a length of yarn and use it to tie off your pom-pom with a double knot. Remove the pom-pom maker then trim up your pom-pom so it is all one length.

How to Make a Multi-Coloured Leopard Print Pom-pom

Similar to the above leopard print pom-pom, start your design with a layer of yarn then add sections in another colour. Next we are going to add a third colour over the sections, you can mix it up and add yarn either side of the sections, cover completely or part cover the sections, this will give you an irregular design when cut. Add one more layer of the original yarn colour then repeat a few more leopard print spots. Finally cover with one last layer of the original yarn.

Cut open your pom-pom and tie with a double length of yarn, try and use a longer piece of yarn to tie off your pom-pom, this will be useful if you don’t know what project you will place your pom-pom on. Trim your pom-pom so it is the same length all the way round.

You can have fun creating a whole collection of leopard print pom-poms, you can make them into key-rings, add them to handbags or create a home decor piece wreath. The colour options are endless, here are a few combinations I made on a recent craft project.
