Not sure what shirt to wear? Why not do a half and half t-shirt? It's super easy, too. I love the uniqueness of this t-shirt, and I think it's a fantastic upcycle, especially for those who have a bunch of t-shirts and don't wear them on a regular basis. Check out this custom half and half t-shirt tutorial, where I'll show you how easy and fun it is to make one. I went for a half black half white t-shirt style, but you can do any color and print your heart desires. Let's get started!

Tools and materials:

  • 2 T-shirts
  • Needle and thread
  • Pins
  • Ruler or measuring tape

Line and cut the shirts

Ok, so I actually went thrift store shopping the other day, and I found two cool t-shirts to do this project with. You can choose anything you want, but the point is to have two different colors to create this look. Now that you've decided on two t-shirts, line them as closely as possible.

Next, measure the halfway points and move over 1cm for the seam allowance.

When you're satisfied with the mark, pin or mark it and cut the shirt straight down the middle.

You can do the same with the second shirt; either use the first shirt as a guideline or re-do the measurement. Be sure to put a 1cm seam allowance.

Be sure to match the collars; these have to be straight. One of my shirts was longer at the bottom, but that didn't bother me. As long as the shirts matched up on top of the collar, you're good to go.

Assemble the shirts

Pin them along the front, down the middle. When you pin, do not stretch the fabric. Pin the shirts somewhat loosely and remember to pin them with the fabric right sides together.

Now sew the front pieces together. I opted to do this by hand, but you can cut the time by using a sewing machine.

Once the front DIY half and half shirt are sewn together, flip the shirt inside out and line up the back halves.

Pin the back right sides together and sew.

Ready for the reveal? Look how awesome this is! Isn't this custom half and half t-shirt just so unique and cool? I bet you won't see this anywhere. That's how cool it is; you get to customize your own clothes. I wore a pair of sleek-fitting biker shorts, and I think this is a lovely ensemble. Fresh, cool, casual, and unique!

You can also pair this with jeans or white pants, and the half black half white t-shirt is so versatile; it goes just about with any look. I hope you enjoyed this quick and easy half and half t-shirt DIY tutorial. Have fun!
