Triple Panel Sequin T-Shirt DIY
I had a bunch of leftover sequined fabric that is just so beautiful, and I really wanted to do something with it. I found a cool idea on Pinterest to create a shirt with panels of different fabrics in the front and decided to use the sequined fabric for one of the panels. I am essentially combining two shirts--a plain, white tee and a cute pink snakeskin shirt--and adding the sequined panel to add some fashion and flair. This easy sequin t-shirt is so cute and fun, I’m sure you’re going to love it, so let’s get started!
Tools and materials:
- Sequined fabric
- White t-shirt
- Patterned t-shirt
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Fabric chalk
- Pins
- Sewing machine
Measure and pin
On both t-shirts, I measured 2 inches down from the armholes and put pins in to mark those spots.
Rip the seam
Using a seam ripper, I opened both sides seams until the pins.
Cut
I decided to work on the white shirt first. I cut across the front panel of the shirt in a straight line, from pin to pin.
Measure, mark, and cut
I measured 6 inches of the sequined fabric and marked it with fabric chalk. I used the panel I removed from the white shirt to measure the width, cutting around it on the sequined fabric, leaving about ½ an inch around the edges for seam allowance.
Measure and cut
I placed the sequined fabric in place on the white shirt and measured how much more fabric I would need from the sequined panel to the bottom of the shirt.
Then I cut that amount (which was 9 inches for me) from the front panel of the snakeskin shirt.
Pin and sew
I pinned the panels together across the front of the shirt, with a ½-inch seam allowance, and sewed them all together. Then I pinned up the side seams and sewed them down. To finish it off, I zigzag stitched all the raw edges to prevent fraying.
I love the results!
I used the panel I removed from the white shirt, another strip of sequined fabric, and the top and back of the snakeskin shirt to make a second shirt in the same style.
