Upcycled Gem Embellished Shoes

If like me, you have an abundance of gems and pearls, you might add some to your craft projects now and again but your stash keeps growing. How about a fashionable craft project full of charm that uses all your favourite gems and pearls.

When your favourite shoes start to get a bit worn and tatty on the heels, what could be better than covering them with gems. It helps you to get more wear out of your shoes and who doesn’t love a bit of sparkle with every step.

What you will Need

  • A mix of Gems and Pearls
  • Jewel Glue
  • A pair of old shoes

How to Make

Take your shoes and wipe them down with a damp cloth to remove any dirt, leave them to dry.

Add a thin layer of glue to your shoe and start adding gems from the bottom of the heel, mix up the gems and pearl colours and sizes. This is a great project for a rainy day or while you watch your favourite programs.

Keep building the gems and pearls, I worked on both the heels at the same time so I could balance the design and make sure they were even.

I used a select of gems and pearls, try and use different sizes and textures. I mixed up my colours but you can use any you like. Try mixing similar shades of the same colour or maybe rainbow would look really cool.

Once I had filled the majority of my heel with gems and pearls, I went back with tiny 3mm gems to fill the bigger gaps. You don’t have to fill every gap as the base colour of the heel will just show through. I also added some cute star gems over the top of the other gems as a quirky touch.

Embellishing the heels of your shoes adds a really a unique and pretty look to your footwear. It works on a whole number of heel types and heights. It can help hide a multiple of scuffs and scratches prolonging the length of your shoes, which is great for the environment!
