Making a Ceramic Brooch Pin Out of Old Saucers!
I love to make my own jewellery from anything vintage and preserving an old piece of beautiful unloved ceramic is a way to make jewellery on a budget and help with world waste.
I choose a few pieces I think will make into something pretty. The choice is the nice part of designing and capturing the flowers or scene you want to preserve if fun. I begin cutting the ceramic with wheeled tile nippers and safety glasses on.
I like to use a hand held mini rotary drill with sanding carbide attachment that really helps smooth the rough edges and shape it into a piece that looks wearable.
I also sand a patch on the reverse side to help with glueing and adhesion of the. Brooch pin. It gives a better surface to stick to when it’s roughed up a little .
I then mix two part epoxy resin glue together to make a very strong bond ready for brooch pin. A small blob of each and mix well. It has to be used within few minutes before hardener goes off.
Holding the brooch pin in position onto the glue spread patch on reverse of brooch. Within minutes it’s stuck and almost ready to wear!
I’m so thrilled with the piece and can be worn on clothes hats or bags whatever you want to cheer up!
