How to Make a No-Sew Circle Dress

Tools and materials:

• Fabric (2.5 yards)
• Chalk
• Measuring tape
• Scissors

1st fold

You’re going to start by making the first (of many) folds. Take the top-left edge and bring it down to the bottom of the fabric. Make sure that everything is nice and smooth.

Cut off excess

Now cut off the excess fabric that is not included in the fold. This will leave you with a right-angle triangle. 

2nd fold

Now you need to fold that right-angle triangle to make it into an equilateral triangle. 

3rd fold

After that, you need to fold it again to give you another right angle triangle. 

4th fold

Fold the material again - this is the very last fold.

Cut a curve

Now you need to cut a curve at the bottom of the fabric. I placed a water bottle on my fabric to keep it in place while I'm cutting and stop it from moving around. Because the fabric is thick, you might not be able to cut through the many layers of it with your scissors. If this is the case, then just cut through it layer by layer. (I recommend using thick, strong scissors, though, as they will make this step easier for you).

Measure and cut the neck-hole

Next up, you're going to measure and cut the neck-hole. Start by unfolding the material to give you half of a semi-circle. Measure a semi-circle of 2.5 inches which will be your neck-hole, and cut it out. (If you would like your neck-hole to be bigger, you could go for 3 or 3.5 inches).

Measure and cut the armholes

From that neck measurement, mark 2.5 inches which is where your shoulder is going to lie, and then from that 2.5 mark, proceed to mark 5.5 inches which is the length of your armhole. For the width of your armhole, measure 1.5 inches (remember your fabric is folded in half, so when you open it up, the width will be 3 inches). It is important to work with your own measurements here. My arm circumference is 12 inches, so if your arms measure the same or similar, then you can go with the measurements I've used. If your arms measure bigger, then you will want to make the armhole slightly bigger.

Finish by simply opening up the dress and popping it on!
