Masks have become the new necessary accessory. But it doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. I’ve designed an adorable mask chain holder so you will never have to worry about losing your mask and look fabulous at the same time. Follow along with my tutorial, and you’ll have an easy mask chain ready for use in no time at all.

Tools and materials:

  • 22 gauge silver wire
  • 32 inches small link jewelry chain
  • 2 glass cathedral beads
  • 2 lobster clasps
  • 1 jump ring
  • Small charm
  • Cutter tool
  • Chain nose pliers
  • Bent chain nose pliers
  • Round nose pliers
DIY mask chain

Make a loop

To begin, cut 4 inches of wire. About one inch from the end, create a loop using your chain nose pliers and round nose pliers. For a detailed demonstration of the technique to create the loops, see the video from 1:38-2:00.

Face mask chain

Attach chain and wrap

Slide the last link of the chain onto the wire and into the loop you just created. Then wrap the shorter end of the wire around the neck of the loop three times, making sure the wraps are tight and close together.

Cut and crimp

Cut the excess wire after wrapping, and crimp down the sharp edge with the chain nose plier.

Make a mask chain

Add bead and loop

Slide one of the beads onto the wire so it’s resting above the wrapped part of the wire. Then, using the same technique as shown previously, make another loop above the bead.

Easy mask chain

Place clasp and wrap

Slide one of the lobster clasps onto the wire and into the loop you just made. Then, wrap the wire three times between the loop and the bead.

Cut and crimp

Once again, cut off the excess wire, and crimp down the sharp edge.

Repeat

Repeat the whole process on the other end of the chain.

Add the charm

Open the jump ring with your two sets of pliers, and slip the loop of the charm onto it. Then, insert the jump ring into a loop next to one of the clasps, and close up the ring.

Attach your mask

To attach your mask to the chain, simply hook the lobster clasps onto the elastic bands of your mask, at the bottom corners.

And here’s the final result!

What do you think of this accessory? If you make a mask chain of your own, I would love to see your design.
