I adore giving old things that are broken or unwanted and breath new energy life into them. Especially vintage crockery it’s such a diverse choice of patterns colours and eras to be inspired by.

Old crockery

Deciding on the bits that make good pendant necklaces is a wholly enjoyable experience . I use wheeled tile nippers to cut and break into the crockery pieces . Use eye goggles to protect eyes .

Wheeled tile nippers

They are easy way to cut ceramics and you don’t need to be strong it breaks easily.

Cutting little pieces of ceramic crockery

Next smoothing and sanding the chosen pieces or pieces. I use a small mini hand held sander with a carbide stone to smooth away at the sharp edges and begin to shape it how I want.

Sanding the edges

When it’s all smoothed and shaped it’s time to drill a hole into the ceramic piece ready for the silver bail .

I use the diamond tipped drill pieces and make sure dip into water to keep tip cool.

It is slowly slowly drill for five seconds and rest for five seconds and eventually the drill goes through the ceramic .

Apply silver bail

Put a bail that has two posts into the drilled hole and squeeze tightly with some pliers. It’s now secure and ready to add your own choice of chain onto it.

Vintage china pendant
