In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to recreate a spa-worthy facial in the comfort of your own home. This luxurious skincare routine is for when you truly need to pamper yourself! If you follow these nine at-home facial steps, including the steamer session - I guarantee your skin will feel amazing!

I've mentioned the specific products I use throughout this tutorial, but you can adapt them to what works for your skin, or what you have at home.

Tools and materials:

  • Cleansing butter or makeup remover
  • Face cleanser
  • Facial steamer
  • Clay mask
  • Toner
  • Exfoliant
  • Serum
  • Moisturizer
  • Face roller
Basic facial steps

1. Cleansing butter or makeup remover

Using my Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter is my favorite way to remove my makeup. Before I discovered cleansing butter, I used wipes, but I realized that wipes don't meet the mark of what my skin should feel like when I'm taking off my makeup.

Cleansing shouldn't feel like you're rubbing at makeup or ripping off the top layer of your skin! Cleansing butter is just so soothing. Afterward, I use baby wipes to gently wipe the cleanser off and it glides so easily.

2. Skin cleanser

Now that my makeup is off my face, I'm going to use my Cetaphil oily skin cleanser to cleanse my skin. This is a super gentle cleanser - nothing fancy - and an affordable drug store purchase.

When it comes to skin, I think simple best, even for my oily skin type. I advise against harsh cleansers that strip the skin of its natural oils. They can both dry out your skin and even make it more oily, as your body tries to replenish the oil levels!

3. Facial steamer

Next up, I'm using a facial steamer. This contraption comes with a cup that you pour purified water in. You switch it on, wait for the water to boil, then you can steam away. It’s just like a sauna for your face! If you haven't used one before, here are some FAQs about facial steamers:

What are the benefits of steaming your face?

Steaming your face helps open up your pores, clear them out, and purify your skin. That's why it's important to cleanse thoroughly first, as what's on your skin can seep deeper into your pores.

Should you steam your face at home?

Of course, you can do a DIY steaming session with a bowl and a towel, but if this is something you plan on incorporating into your routine, a facial steamer is the best and safest thing to use. You can't control a bowl of boiling water and could damage your skin if you're not careful.

Keep the steamer at least five inches away from your face and close your eyes to avoid irritating them.

How long should I steam my face for?

No more than 15 minutes, and no more than twice a week. I use mine for only about 10 minutes.

4. Clay mask

Next, I'm going to use a deep pore cleansing clay mask. I do this after I've steamed because a facial steamer opens up your pores, so the products can get in deeper.

I'm using the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay. You just need to mix the clay with water, then you can apply it onto your skin. Let it sit and harden for 20 minutes on your face, before washing it away.

5. Toner

Next, I use my Glycerin & Rosewater toner. This toner feels like an oil, as opposed to other toners that are alcohol-based and can feel a bit harsh. It feels very soothing on the face, and the whole facial process is making me feel really calm and relaxed.

6. Exfoliate

Next, exfoliate to improve the smoothness of your skin and remove any remnants of the clay face mask.

I use the Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. This exfoliant has changed my life! The texture of my skin has never been so smooth. I've always struggled with rough skin, but this exfoliant has changed all of that.

7. Moisturizer

I'm going to dab a small amount of moisturizer on my face and rub it all in. I'm using the Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturizer.

8. Serum

At the same time, I'm going to squirt serum on my face and rub that in as well. I'm using the Bybibeauty CBD Booster.

9. Jade facial roller

Now that the moisturizer and serum are sitting on my face, I'm going to use my jade facial roller to work the products into my skin

Facial rollers have a ton of benefits: they increase skin elasticity, reduce the appearance of pores, boost overall collagen levels, and eliminate toxins... I'm sure there are even more! All I know is that it's super relaxing.
