With fairer skintones redness and discoloration can be a common issue and may be more visible. Some skintones can also be more red tinted or have red undertones which may also cause increased redness in the skin. If redness in your face is a beauty concern for you, there are a few ways to help reduce the appearance of it. Try these steps below to help reduce redness in your face. 👇

DISCLAIMER: I am not a doctor or dermatologist. Do not take this as professional or medical advice. This is my personal advice based on a recent dermatology consultation and it is not medically or professionally endorsed. Please speak to your dermatologist before starting any prescription strength products.

STEP 1 - USE A GENTLE CLEANSER

Start by using a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil. A gentle cleanser is the best for sensitive skin and reducing redness. Using a cleanser that is too harsh or that has too strong of ingredients can irritate skin and cause the capillaries to become more active, bringing more redness to your face. A gentle cleanser does the job without causing any additional redness. Rub gently all over your face and wash with warm water.

STEP 2 - USE A DERMATOLOGIST APPROVED TOPICAL TREATMENT

If you can't seem to reduce redness in your cheeks with other steps or products, ask your dermatologist if a topical treatment like Rhofade may be good for you. This topical treatment helps reduce redness by tightening blood vessels near the skin's surface and is only available by prescription. Use once daily in the morning to reduce redness within 5 minutes as well as over time. Use a pea sized amount and rub over the red areas on your face.

STEP 3 - TRY A "SKIN PERFECTOR"

I had never heard of a skin perfector until a few months ago when I was introduced by a Dior specialist. A skin perfector is a slightly tinted cream that covers redness to create the illusion of having perfect skin. I use the Dior Capture Totale Dream Skin Perfect Skin Creator cream that has a slightly pearlescent peachy-pink tone that balances colors and creates a more even skintone. Use a small amount and rub over areas of redness, extending outside the red area for full, even coverage.

STEP 4 - USE A GREEN PRIMER

The last step is to apply an anti-redness primer before putting on your makeup. Green tinted products are typically used for combating red tones. I like the Smashbox Photo Finish Correct Anti Redness Primer. The green primer easily blends and disappears into your skintone while contrasting the redness. Apply the primer all over your face for an even makeup application.

Here you can see the before and after comparison of using these 4 products.

LEFT: BEFORE - The left side of my face is all natural with no products applied.

RIGHT: AFTER - The right side of my face is after applying the 4 products shared above.

While the difference doesn't appear DRASTIC in this photo, it is still a noticeable difference with reduced redness. Unfortunately redness can be difficult to treat and there is only so much that can be done to correct it.

I hope these tips for reducing redness were helpful! The more you do these steps, the more you should see results.
