In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to make a gorgeous chiffon fashion belt.

We’re going to be transforming some chiffon fabric, that people would usually think of as scarf material, and showing how it can be used to design a trendy belt.

It is so easy to achieve so no matter what your level of expertise is when it comes to DIY, anyone can make this. Let’s get into it!

Tools and materials:

  • 2 yards (1.8 meters) of chiffon
  • T-shirt ring
  • Iron
  • Sewing machine (or needle and thread)
  • Flattened rope
  • Glue gun
  • Scissors
Using iron to press double hem

1. Create a hem

Using your iron, press down a double hem on the two longer sides and one of the shorter sides of the chiffon.

Sewing hem

2. Sew the hem

Proceed to sew the hem down.

Threading ring

3. Thread through the ring

Now gather the end that is not sewn with a double hem, feed it through one of the holes in the t-shirt ring and fold it over.

Sewing down fabric

4. Sew fabric down

Then, go back to your sewing machine and sew the section of fabric that you just threaded through the ring. Go back and forth a few times to hold it in place. Trim off any excess fabric.

Adding the belt loop

5. Add the belt loop

Now use some braided flattened rope that's braided and hot glue it in place.

As you do that, you’re also taking care of the unfinished or this raw edge of the fabric, so it won't fray. You’re also creating the belt loop.

And just like that, we have created this gorgeous chiffon fashion belt.

I went for a bright floral print, and I love how it will add a pop of color to any of my outfits. The belt cinches me in at the waist and then it has this wonderful flare as the scarf drapes down alongside my dress. I adore this new accessory and I hope you’ll give it a try.
