In this DIY, I’ll show you how to turn simple strands of rope — available at the dollar store — into a stunning accessory.


We’ll be making a rope design headband, so follow along with me as I guide you through the steps.

Tools and materials: 

  • Headband
  • Rope
  • Glue gun
  • Scissors
Rope strands

1. Take rope

Start by taking four strands of rope. (The number of strands you need will depend on the thickness of the headband, so you may need more or fewer strands depending on the headband you are using).

2. Apply glue

Next, apply glue to the headband.

3. Stick rope on

Next, attach the rope to the headband one strand at a time. Make sure each piece of rope is placed right next to the previous one, with no gaps between them.

4. Tie knot

Attach the rope to the headband, covering about two-thirds of its length, and then tie a knot at the top.

5. Stick rope down

Continue to stick the rest of the rope down.

Cutting the rope

6. Cut off excess

Cut off any excess rope at the ends.

Applying glue

7. Apply glue

Then apply glue to the ends to stop them from fraying.
