Summer Savvy DIY: How to Make a Cute Hat for Wearing With Ponytails
Don't you just hate that you can't wear a high ponytail with a baseball hat?
Well, with this hack you can easily make hats for ponytails by transforming any ball cap into a high pony DIY hat.
It's a super quick, money-saving technique that even beginners can use.

Tools and materials:
1. Deconstruct the hat
Measure and mark 0.75 inches from the top ball down the center back of the hat.
Seam rip the band where it connects to the hat on both sides of the back opening and remove the strap from one side.
Detach the binding around the existing back opening. Cut the binding away, leaving a half inch or so on each side.
2. Cut the back curve
Fold the hat along the center back seam and lay it down as flat as possible.
Trace and cut a curve from the mark on the center back to the lower raw edge of the original opening.
Cut two notches along the curve, dividing it approximately into thirds.
3. Attach the back elastic
Cut two pieces of elastic each 4 inches long.
Sew one piece of elastic to the top notch on one side of the opening and to the lower notch on the opposite side, with the right sides together.
Repeat with the other piece so they make an X shape across the opening.
4. Bind the opening
Pin one edge of the seam binding to the inside edge of the opening.
Place the ends of the new binding underneath the half inch tails of the original tape.
Make sure the elastic is tucked out of the way under the right side of the hat, and sew the binding in place around the curve.
Turn the binding over the raw edge to the right side and top stitch it down.
5. Close the band
Fold the tail of the original binding over the new binding and sew it in place on both sides.
Turn the band to the inside and sew it over the binding.
Re-attach the free end of the strap, making sure it's not twisted.

Now you can pull your ponytail through your hat and have it look super cute.
If you're a runner, you'll especially appreciate this cost-effective way to keep your hair off the back of your neck. And it works with any kind of ball cap or baseball hat.
