Hip Hip Hor “Rey” for Seamwork’s New Rey Bucket Hat Pattern Release

The Rey bucket hat pattern is a fun, creative sew and a perfect accessory to welcome Spring and pair with your new makes. Won’t it be fun to say that you made your own hat!!

Rey is a perfect scrap busting pattern. It is a reversible lined hat, perfect for contemporary styling and creative design. I used some of the Polka dot faux leather that I had left over from my Rhett Jacket. This wonderful fabric is available from Minerva. You can see all of the details for sewing with this versatile fabric here.

Rey is available in 3 sizes. Simply measure the circumference of your head and choose the best size for you. I chose to make a medium, which is slightly larger than my head measurement so that the hat would fit a bit more loosely. My lining is also from Minerva, a crisp black and white cotton gingham. As the hat is completely reversible it makes it even more versatile and fun to create.

The hat and brim has topstitching details that can be done in a matching or contrasting stitch. The pattern gives you very clear directions and offers some great details and hints for making your top stitching polished and even. My bucket hat not only matches my faux leather Rhett seen here, it will be fun to wear with my Seamwork Joss pants made with the same fabric.

I have reworked and adapted this Joss pants pattern so that I now have the perfect custom fit. I lowered the rise by several inches as a lower rise is a much better fit for me. I feel more comfortable wearing pants lower on my hips and the Joss is perfect for adapting for this. I made a size 10 and adjusted the pattern to just slip over my hips. I didn’t choose to add side pockets to these pants due to the thickness of the fabric, I felt it would keep the lines of the pant more sleek looking. To eliminate any bulk in the waistline, I did not add a fabric waistband, instead I added a 2” wide waistband elastic. I narrowed the width of the leg so that it was more a straight leg design, then lengthen it by 4” for a cropped ankle length.

I am so pleased with all 3 pieces that I was able to create with this fabric. I am not sure I will ever wear them all together, but as separates they will be fun to pair with a variety of garments in my wardrobe. It is fun to create patterns that offer creative fun options AND use up fabric scraps.

After all there is Sew Much To Design,

Happy Sewing
