If you love doing acrygel nails, but don’t love trying to get the acrygel off so much, then follow along with this tutorial.

I will show you how to remove hard gel from your natural nails, using the best tools.

Tools and materials:

  • 100/180 nail file
  • Round makeup pads (cut in half)
  • Nail clips
  • Nail scraper tool
  • 100% acetone
  • Cuticle oil
Nail file

1. Start with filing

You need a 100/180 nail file for this step.

Filing nails

Use it to file off the majority of acrygel polish from your nails as possible, before you are down to your natural nail.

Tip: Be careful when using the file, because it could damage the skin around your nail, which will eventually lead to some future cuticle problems.

Keep the file on the surface of your nails only.

2. Soak with acetone

Once the filing is complete, soak round makeup pads that have been cut in half in 100% acetone, and wrap each nail with a soaked pad.

Soaking nail

Apply a nail clip to each wrapped nail, to hold the acetone-soaked pad in place.

I prefer to do this one hand at a time, so I have my other handle available to work with.

Setting timer

Let the soaked pads remain on your nails for 10 minutes.

Removing pads

3. Remove clips and pads

After 10 minutes, remove the first clip and pad.

Scraping off acrygel

4. Scrape off acrygel

Most of the acrygel should have soaked off, or curled up and detached itself from your nail at this point, but you can use a nail scraper tool to gently remove the rest.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each nail.

5. Re-soak your nails

After scraping, pop each nail back into a clip to soak off any remaining bits of polish.

Then repeat step 4.

Scraping nails

Use the scraper tool to target any last remains of polish.

Buffing nails

6. Buff your nails

Lightly buff each nail with a cube, and wash any residue from your nails and hands.

Applying cuticle oil

7. Apply cuticle oil

Apply a generous amount of cuticle oil to each nail to immediately rehydrate your cuticles.

Applying cuticle oil

Use your finger to spread the cuticle oil from your cuticles to the tips of your nails.

Nails after acrygel removal

Acrygel nails

After removing the acrygel, my nails are clean, smooth, and completely free of damage, and that was totally the goal!
