Cute and Affordable Halloween Doll Costume
Hey guys, hope you're all having a wonderful day. Halloween is coming up soon and I wanted to show you how to make an affordable Halloween costume that is also simple to make. I decided on this wind-up baby-doll costume because I thought it was different and fits my goal.
Let’s get right to it!
Tools and materials:
- Dress
- Sneakers
- Inside of a paper towel
- Paint
- Wide ribbon
- Narrow ribbon
- Cardboard or a cereal box
- Headband
1. Make the wind-up key
The first thing that I'm doing is sketching out the wind-up key onto the cardboard. I'm just free-handing this but you can always use something circular as a template.
Then I'm going to cut it out with some scissors.
Once I have done that, I will cut out the inner circles with a sharp craft knife.
I now want to attach the wind-up piece to the cardboard tube. To do this, I put hot glue on the little ledge I created at the bottom of the key.
Then, I slip the tube over that piece and press down and repeat on the back of the key.
Once that is all dry, I paint the key gold.
When the paint is dry, I'm going to cut the end of the paper towel roll to the length I would like it to be.
Using a craft knife, I poke holes at the bottom of the tube on the front and back.
Then I slip a piece of my narrow ribbon through these holes. The ribbon is going to tie around my waist, so I need to make sure I cut a generous amount.
If possible, match the color of the ribbon to the dress you choose to wear so that it blends in.
Lastly, I'm just taking the glue gun and I'm going to glue the end of the paper towel roll to a base. This way, it can prop up on your back properly and not flop over. For extra surety, I glue the ribbon down to the base as well.
2. Create the headband
Cut a length of your wider ribbon to create the bow.
Tie it in a really loose knot.
Slip the headband through this knot and tighten it in the center.
Tie a big bow with the remaining ribbon and fluff it out.
Cut the ends of the ribbon so that they are shorter.
And this is what you should end up with.
3. Create the baby doll makeup
Now onto the makeup for this affordable Halloween costume.
I started out applying foundation and basic eye makeup. Then I'm just taking some blush and I'm going a bit crazy with it because dolls always have those bright rosy cheeks.
Using a brown liquid liner, I draw on some freckles.
Next, I'm going to take some foundation and apply that onto my lips because I want them to blend in with my skin tone.
Now I apply red lipstick in the center of my lips which I think really gives that doll effect.
I'm taking my brown liquid liner again and I'm going to create some dramatic eyelashes underneath my eye.
And then I fully line across my eye.
That is pretty much it for the finished makeup look.
4. Create the baby doll hair
Now onto the hairstyle for this baby doll Halloween costume.
I'm just opting for some pigtails because I feel like that's the perfect classic doll hairstyle.
I'm securing my hair into two ponytails on either side and I'm not too worried about how even they are, I want them to be messy.
Pull out a few front pieces.
Here is the final hairstyle.
5. Finishing touches
I put on my dress and sneakers.
Added the bow headband.
Tied the key around my waist.
Affordable Halloween costume
And this is the result of the affordable Halloween costume. This turned out so cute and it’s super easy to create.
