How to Make a DIY Barbie Halloween Costume Inspired By Margot Robbie
Halloween is here and if you still haven’t got your costume ready, there is still time to pull something together. In this tutorial, I’m going to show you a DIY Barbie Halloween costume, inspired by Margot Robbie. Let’s get started!
Tools and materials:
- Biker shorts
- Bathing suit
- Visor
- Bright material
- Knee pads or knee braces
- Scissors
- Sneakers or rollerblades
This costume is based on the upcoming Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Even though it hasn’t come out yet, we did get a sneak peek into some of her outfits. We’ll be DIYing some of the costumes and putting the rest together from simple pieces that you’re likely to have in your wardrobe.
1. Check your wardrobe & thrift stores
I'm starting with some bright pink biker shorts that I already owned and a bathing suit. I think these two pieces give the same vibe that she has in her outfit. You could also go for a white bodysuit and tie-dye it. The visor hat I thrifted
2. Make the elbow pads
The last piece here that I thrifted was a bright neon men's shirt. What I did was cut off the sleeves to create my elbow pads.
I am doing no sewing, no gluing; simply folding the fabric in on itself three times to create this cuff. Then, I'll slide it up my arm to give the illusion of elbow pads. I did that with the two sleeves.
3. Make the knee pads
Then, with the body of this shirt, I'm just going to cut it into two pieces so I have two very long strips. These are going to be used for the knee pads.
If you know a volleyball player you could use their knee pads or even if you rollerblade yourself, use your own knee pads. Then, you can just simply tuck in the fabric and wrap it around to cover it up to give you that bright neon look. I used knee braces.
DIY Margot Robbie Barbie costume
This is a simple, quick way to throw this costume together and I think it's pretty efficient.
Obviously, she's in rollerblades whereas I am in white sneakers, but the thrift store did have a ton of rollerblades available. I didn't buy them because I don't know how to rollerblade so this is definitely not a practical thing for me to wear for Halloween! Maybe if you're taking the kids out trick-or-treating, you could roller skate from house to house.
I'm pretty happy with how this turned out and it was really quick and easy to throw together. Let me know what you thought of this DIY costume in the comments below. Happy Halloween!
