Don’t you just love the fairycore or mermaidcore vibe? Here’s a pretty way to replace the buttons on a delicate blouse or shirt with tiny sea shells or snail shells.

Make sure your shells are small enough to pass through the buttonholes on your top.

Tools and materials:

  • Tiny sea shells or snail shells
  • Small screw hooks
  • Resin or hot glue
  • Hand sewing needle and thread
Shells

1. Shells

Wash the shells well. You may want to paint them with resin or clear nail polish to make them stronger.

Filling shell

2. Resin

Fill a shell with resin or hot glue.

Adding hook

While the resin is still soft, push the screw end of the hook as far into the shell as you can.

Leave it until it’s dried firmly in place.

Sewing shells on

3. Sew

Hand sew the shell onto your blouse or top, using the hook as the button shank.

Such a pretty and unique way to fasten your top!

Even with a resin coating, the shells are fragile. They should always be hand washed, never put in the washing machine.
