Today, I’m going to show you how to transform a white button-up shirt with a floral design using real flowers.

Need a basic button down in your closet? This one is a perfect shirt loose fitting, comes in several different colors, and is highly recommended by Amazon reviewers!

We’ll be using a hammer to pound the flowers onto the shirt, creating a unique and beautiful pattern. Let’s get started!

Tools and materials:

  • White shirt
  • Flowers
  • Hammer
  • Fabric
Flowers

1. Get flowers

Start by choosing a vibrant bouquet of flowers. For this DIY project, opt for flowers with bright, bold colors rather than pale hues.

2. Place flower on shirt

Select a flower from the bouquet and place it face down on the shirt.

3. Put fabric on top

Proceed to take a piece of fabric and place it over the top.

4. Hammer on fabric

Now for the fun part: gently hammer the fabric to transfer the flower’s color and shape onto the shirt. You’ll probably notice some color from the petals seeping through the fabric.

5. Remove fabric

Carefully peel away the fabric, then remove the flower.

6. Repeat

Continue the process by hammering additional flowers onto the shirt. You can choose where to place the flowers, how many to include, and which colors to use.

Here is the final look, featuring the flower prints pounded onto the shirt with a hammer. I love how the colors have transferred to create these beautiful flower patterns.

I’m also pleased with the asymmetric design, which includes two orange flowers on one side. Give this DIY a go for yourself, and let me know what you think!

When you wash the shirt do the flowers just wash away or leave a stain? Is there a way to keep it vibrant?

Since your question hasn’t been answered (mine too) we could test it on a scrap of fabric. Also, isn’t there a fixative for dyed fabrics that could be applied?

How the heck did you figure that out to even try? Cute but I’m not a fan of wearing men’s shirts..

You could use any white button up shirt - men's, women's or child's. It does not specify that it has to be a man's shirt.
