Turning 2 Men's Shirts Into Fashion For Ladies
Hi Crafters! It is TIME for a spring upcycling project! I have the perfect candidates in mind… two men’s shirts that I got for FREE! While I love the fabric, length, and detailing on both of these shirts, they need to be refashioned before they can work well for me. Time to get our upcycling/refashioning/recycling brains to work!
My vision for the black shirt started with cutting off the top of the shirt and collar.
I wanted to raise the shoulders a bit while creating an elastic, peasant-style neckline. (I used wide single-fold bias tape to make the channel for the elastic.)
In the end, the raised neck raised the underarm seam a bit too high for me, so I chopped off the sleeves along with a tab of the under arm area too.
I hemmed the new short sleeves and viola! A flutter sleeve tunic!
My “upcycle” of the pink shirt was one of the easiest ever… Seriously, I didn’t cut a thing!
Since I didn’t like the high collar and longish sleeves, I experimented with rolling them up or down. I pinned them in place then tried the shirt on. After some tweaking, I hand-sewed the collar and sleeve cuffs in place!
