Because this soap has a shea butter base, it helps keep dry skin moisturized. The calamine lotion used helps eczema sufferers get some relief.

When you make your own beauty products, you can customize the ingredients like the soap base and essential oils used in the final product.

This recipe uses chamomile essential oil, tea tree oil, lemongrass essential oil, and peppermint essential oil. These are known to soothe skin.

This homemade soap is a melt and pour soap recipe. I find it much easier to make than cold process soap or hot process.

1 lb shea butter melt and pour soap base

2 tbsp calamine lotion

1 tsp shea butter

Essential oil blend: 6 drops chamomile, 2 drops lemongrass, 2 drops tea tree, 2 drops peppermint

Flower soap mold

4 cup microwave-safe measuring cup with a spout

Wooden craft stick for stirring

Rubber gloves

You can add extra oils like lavender essential oil to the soap if you would like.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb shea butter melt and pour soap base
  • 2 tbsp calamine lotion
  • 1 tsp shea butter
  • Essential oil blend: 6 drops chamomile, 2 drops lemongrass, 2 drops tea tree, 2 drops peppermint
  • Flower soap mold
  • 4 cup microwave-safe measuring cup with a spout
  • Wooden craft stick for stirring
  • Rubber gloves
Instructions

Cut the melt and pour base into 1-inch cubes, and add them to the measuring cup.
Add the soap cubes to the measuring cup.
Heat the base and shea butter in the microwave for 30 seconds, remove and stir. Heat for additional 10-second intervals, stirring well between each heating session, until fully melted.
Add the calamine lotion, and stir very well to combine the color. You can use a stick blender if you like.
Once the base cools down a little bit, add the essential oil, and stir well.
Pour the soap base into the mold cavities, and allow it to sit undisturbed for 2 hours.
Remove the soap bars from the mold. The calamine lotion will sink to the bottom, giving that lovely pink color on top!
