Isn’t it funny how even though it’s just the very beginning of August, we already think summer is almost over?

But it’s really not from Mother Nature’s point of view…

Many of us (myself included) have August vacations planned.

And of course, we need cute looks for that! And then there are the summer barbecues and pool parties...

And don’t forget that the official last day of summer isn’t until September 21, which is a whole SEVEN WEEKS away.

That’s a bunch of late summer outfits I want to help you put together.

So read on and see if any of these looks work for you…

By the way, since the stores are jumping ahead to Fall stuff, there are TONS OF SUMMER SALES which I will mention as we go along.

Let’s get started:

In this post...

Late Summer Outfits (and What I’ll Wear for a Beach Vacation)

I am planning a trip this week to visit my friends in Kiawah, South Carolina. I know some of the time will be spent at their beach club, and there will definitely be a day trip to Charleston, so cute lunch looks will be planned.

And then there will be lots of lounging and beach walking, so I’ll add in some gear for that. My hostess said to plan for hot and humid weather so I will do so.

But remember, where it’s hot, it’s also air-conditioned, so I will include several summery cardigans and jean jackets to complete my late summer outfits

.

Summer Airport Outfit

Whenever I travel, no matter the time of year, I wear black as much as possible. I do this because this somewhat protects me from accidental spills.

And it allows me to wear the items again on the trip as the black items don’t show soil easily.

Plus, I want to be comfy, and black athleisure items really fill that bill.

So, check out this very cute Summer Travel Outfit:

It’s a black high low tank (no bra show armhole, which is essential to me!), black leggings with a cool white stripe on the leg, white sneakers, and a white jean jacket.

I know it might seem paradoxical that I paired a white jean jacket ( similar, here), but it is so cute and will pair readily with multiple looks as you will see below.

I also added a black and white polka dot scarf ( similar, here), because it completed the look and added a bit of zhoosh! If it is hot at your final destination, just remove the scarf and add it to the handles of your purse or tote. It will look adorable!

Pro-tip: Always try to wear your bulkiest items on the plane, such as these white sneakers as they tend to take up too much real estate in your suitcase. And they’re so comfy when you’re schlepping through the airports and car rental places…

Pro-tip: In my carry-on, I ALWAYS pack a black cashmere shawl/wrap. Every plane ride is cold for some part of the journey, and this is the answer! YOU WILL THANK ME!!! I also take a black cashmere hoodie ( similar, here). I hate to be cold on the trip!

Pro-tip: Under my sneakers, I ALWAYS WEAR THESE SOCKS!!! I have very narrow heels and before these Bombas socks, every pair would slide down inside my sneakers and drive me CRAZY! These SOCKS STAY UP!!! Period! Get them!

Beach Vacation Outfits (Exercise Gear)

When I walk on the beach if it’s early in the day and not too hot, I’ll wear a skort, tank top, and sneakers. Here are my sunglasses.

Of course, as a retired dermatologist, I’ll add a Blackhawk hat and sunscreen.

Beach Vacation Outfits (Lounging Around Look)

I LOVE a pullover! I also love French terry cloth as a fabric to wear especially early in the morning if the house is cool from the air conditioning, or after the afternoon shower when everyone is taking a little nap…

Isn’t this the cutest lounging around look? The pullover is nice and oversized and pairs perfectly with the shorts in the same fabric. Both these pieces are ON SALE but the inventory on the hoodie is low, so here is another great option ON SALE. This looks great with sandals or sneakers.

Cute Casual Outfits (Shorts, tops, and white jeans):

One thing I truly love about summer outfits, be they late, mid, or early, is the wonderful abundance of color!

I love classic fabrics and patterns such as linen, blue and white striped cotton, and of course whimsical prints, such as lemons and flowers.

This summer did not disappoint!

Check out these darling combinations from Talbots, J Crew Factory, as well as Amazon:

Lemon Print Shirt and Linen Shorts
Isn’t this a darling look with the lemon print cotton long-sleeved shirt, the linen shorts, the nude sandals, and the lemon earrings?

I love lemons and here is a blog of me wearing lemon print in seven different ways! The outfit I am showing you here is this darling lemon print shirt with blue linen shorts ( similar, here) ON SALE. I wore it with sandals and could easily pair it with white sneakers. This lemon print is running low in the stores so I paired another pretty option, here) ON SALE.

Here I am with my handsome brother, Matt having a drink at the Ritz in Greensboro, Georgia.
Pink Floral Shirt with White Jeans

When I bought the lemon print shirt (above), I also snagged this gorgeous pink floral print cotton shirt, ON SALE. It is so lovely in its colors and bold flowers. It would pair well with blue shorts (similar, here) (ON SALE), white jeans, and sandals. Here is a post in which I wore lots of colors including this flowered shirt. Here’s my favorite little pink crossbody bag for carrying my phone and IDs.

Gorgeous Blue Cardigan, Print Sleeveless Top, and Shorts

I love the scalloping on the edge of this cardigan (ON SALE). And the shade of blue looks spectacular with this blue and white boho sleeveless top (ON SALE). I paired the blue linen shorts (ON SALE), but of course, this would look just as great with white jeans (ON SALE) for now, and distressed blue jeans (ON SALE) as a transition to a fall look. I will wear this with nude sandals, but could also wear white sneakers just as easily. Here are very similar earrings to my photo. Here is the link for the hat and purse.

Sleeveless Pink Ruffled Top with Tan Shorts

Don’t worry, there is barely any ruffle at the top of this neckline. It’s another vibrant pink. white, tan, and blue sleeveless top. I wore it out in the photo and as you can see with these tan shorts ( similar, here) ON SALE, I am demonstrating the “rule of thirds”: my top is two-thirds of the look, and the shorts are one-third. This looks more interesting and less frumpy than tucking in this top and thereby creating a 50-50 split of the two pieces. Again, I added the nude sandals.

Beach Vacation Look (Cover-ups, Hat, Sunglasses, and Swimsuit)

Have you read on my previous blogs that I am a HUGE fan of the Miraclesuit bathing suits? Why because THEY ARE A MIRACLE! They hold everything in, they stay up, and they don’t ride up. I love them! Here is my favorite solid black one. Get it! You will be so happy that you did! If you like more colors in a suit, check out this post. Check out these incredibly cheap but darling silver beaded bracelets, and “diamond” pave stud earrings for easy bling!

I’ll wear this black suit with a big white shirt (similar, here, and here), white cat eyes sunglasses, and my fun wide-brimmed hat! Oh, and here are two similar sarongs at a great value!

Silky Shortie Pajamas

I love to lounge around in the mornings, especially on vacation. These Karen Mabon print shortie pajamas make that even more fun! I saw this pair on the Today Show’s Steals and Deals but I found these prints by the same designer ( here, here, and here)!

Cute Casual Outfit (Fun Dress for Going Out to Lunch or Dinner)

How do you feel about pompoms?

Would it surprise you to learn that I LOVE THEM!!! I think pompoms are so fun and whimsical.

So last season, Boden came out with this navy pompom dress. I love it! It’s made of French terry and has a v-neck in both the front and back. It has a little navy fabric belt and goes beautifully with my tan straw purse (similar, here) and nude sandals.

Because there is so much going on with the striped and pompom trim, I opted to just wear my “diamond stud” earrings. (Here is another navy pompom summer dress that I just ordered for a terrific price!).

Conclusion:

Well, my lovely followers, that’s my planned set of looks for my beach vacation trip. Most of these outfits will easily take me to lunch, sightseeing, shopping, and a casual dinner. All the items are light to pack. I think I will take them all but I’ll decide that at the last minute as it’s fun to pick up an outfit while on your trip…

XO,

Dr. Julie
