What to Wear With a Long Pleated Skirt: 4 Cute & Easy Outfit Ideas

Ever wondered what to wear with a long pleated skirt? This style guide is your answer. I’m going to create multiple outfits from one pleated skirt to show you how you can maximize your wardrobe and style the same piece for different occasions.

The skirt I’m styling for all of these looks is a flowy, pleated beige one. Although this specific skirt is now sold out, I recommend this Lacoste Women's Colorblock Pleated Long Skirt or this Lamba Pleated Printed Georgette Maxi Skirt for a similar vibe.

Classic long pleated skirt outfit

1. Romantic vibes

I’m first styling my long pleated skirt with a white button-down top, which is such a classic look. This top has a nice little twist to it, you can tie a bow around the neckline, making it look very elegant and sophisticated.

On my feet, I went with a pair of classic nude heels; you really can’t go wrong with them. They match any outfit, and here they pair so well with this pleated skirt.

I didn’t want to over-accessorize this look but rather keep it more clean and classic, so I just added a pair of gold earrings that have a little bit of dangle to them.

Remember that less is more - something dainty and subtle will do the job for a classic look.

For a coat option, I’ve added a nude pea coat which is a perfect simple outerwear piece. I finished off with a nude tote bag. It is a different nude shade from the skirt, but I think the two tones work together well.

2. Work attire

Here, I’ve paired the pleated skirt with a sleeveless top in a black and white polka dot print.

To add another layer, I threw on a classic black blazer over the top. The blazer turns it into a more formal, work-appropriate look.

I added a belt over the blazer, which is a nice accessory touch, and it also creates a defined waistline.

Lastly, I have a pair of black ankle booties and a large black tote bag to finish off the look. The overall look is officewear at its best.

3. Touch of print

Next, I paired the skirt with a long-sleeve leopard-print top. The top adds a trendy, fun touch.

For shoes, I opted for a pair of nude ankle booties. Again nude shoes are a classic to have in your wardrobe. No matter your style, they will definitely match any look.

The top has a loud print, so I kept the accessories more minimal. I just added a headband. A headband is a great way to accessorize your looks when you don’t want to add too much jewelry.

For the outerwear option, I added a black pea coat. The top has a nice bold print, so a plain coat works well.

4. Living for the weekend

For the last outfit, I wanted to style something more casual that you could wear on the weekend.

So, I paired the skirt with a green sweater that is a nice trendy tone. The sweater isn’t too thick, so it doesn’t look too heavy for the skirt.

I added a pair of green ankle booties with a croc-embossed print for footwear. These add more color to the look and work well with the green sweater.

To layer up, I added a faux leather moto jacket that dresses down the skirt and brings those laid-back vibes.

Those are four answers to the question of what to wear with a long pleated skirt. Whether you’re going for something more dressed up or casual and laidback, there is a way of stying this skirt to meet your needs.

A maxi pleated skirt, especially one in a neutral color, is such a worthwhile addition to your wardrobe; I recommend getting one if you don’t have one already.
