What to Wear for Mother's Day 2023

March 19th is Mother's Day in the UK and it's only polite to dress up for the occasion and honour the amazing women who raised us!

Here's a round-up of 5 girly activities you could do with your mum or mother-in-law this year, and of course what to wear for them.

Us girly girls love a day out in London and my uniform for this occasion is always a mini dress, opaque tights and ankle boots. This is because it looks stylish but is warm and practical for walking around all day - especially now I tend to avoid the tube and walk, as I'm no longer a big fan of crowds after Covid.

My mum is a bit scared of London but I think my sister and I could convince her to enjoy afternoon tea at the Ritz and of course a musical in the evening!

Treating your mum doesn't always have to be expensive. The best gift is your time and sometimes all mums want on Mother's Day is to go for a walk and a chat with her family.

I like to prioritise walks with footpaths so I can wear heeled boots! But you could definitely wear the above outfit with more practical wellies, flat boots or trainers. A knit and a pleated midi skirt is a pretty yet practical outfit that instantly makes you look like you've made an effort, even when you haven't really!

A way to add interest to any outfit is with a cute accessory like this pink hair bow from She's Parisian. It is the perfect way to start transitioning your outfits for Spring.

The above outfit may look a bit optimistic for March in England, but the weather has been brightening up lately and I'm hopeful for a warm Spring! For Mother's Day this year, my husband and I are taking his mum out for a pub lunch. A midi dress is my go-to outfit for such events because they are another way of looking dressed-up when you haven't actually tried that hard, and you can wear them without tights which means you'll have lots of room if your tummy bloats a bit after dinner!

If you wear a patterned dress, try accessorising with a colour from the pattern to make your outfit look more put-together. I chose green accessories for the above wedding guest look, because there is sage green in the botanical pattern on the dress.

Here's the perfect combination for a transitional outfit: cami or tank top + cardigan + midi skirt = heavenly layers.

This outfit would work perfectly for a spa day - the ultimate Mother's Day gift! You can wear it over your swimwear and it also means you don't have to lie there with practically no clothes on if you've booked in for a massage (and why on earth would you go for a spa day and NOT have a massage?!).

The cardigan makes it cold-weather appropriate and you can easily take it off if you get too warm inside.

Enjoy Mother's Day this year, whatever you're doing!
