What to Wear in April in the UK

I hope this blog post will be useful to you whether you are visiting the UK for the first time and are unsure what to pack, or even if you live here and are just looking for some style inspo.

I definitely find this time of year the most difficult to dress for. The weather is very changeable in the UK but Instagram would have you believe we're already all floating around in cottagecore dresses! I promise you that is very much not the case and I for one am still focusing on how to keep warm and dry.

One outfit formula I always come back to this time of year is a pleated midi skirt in a light colour with some cream knitwear. The beauty of midi skirts is that they look good both with oversized jumpers and with more tight-fitting, lightweight knits.

The beauty of a midi skirt, especially in this a-line silhouette, is that you can hide several layers underneath. If it's especially cold or even snows this April, rather than reverting to jeans, try layering a pair of thermal leggings, thick socks and knee-high boots under your midi skirt. You'll be just as warm as if you were wearing jeans.

There is always a chance of rain in the UK no matter the time of year! To account for April showers, keep a couple of dark-coloured dresses in your wardrobe. Personally I love burgundy and dark green. This way I can still wear dresses when it's raining because the raindrops won't show up on the darker colour like they will on lighter dresses (obviously I always have a coat with me too!).

Wellies are also an important item to have in your arsenal, especially for walks in the English countryside. I love this pair from Joules, as they are shorter and therefore suitable for wide calves.

Trenchcoats aren't just for Audrey Hepburn running around Manhattan in the rain. They are a huge staple for British wardrobes too.

My trenchcoat is from Burberry but to be honest, I have found very little benefit in buying luxury in this instance. Aside from enjoying the Burberry check on the lining and the inside of the collar, I don't think this coat is any better quality or nicer-looking than the one I previously owned from Tommy Hilfiger. Whether you look to designer or high street, just ensure your trenchcoat is rainproof.

If you are itching for feminine Spring styles and floaty pieces, but the weather isn't playing ball, one trick I have up my sleeve is adding a pretty Spring accessory to my hair. I love this pink sheer 'Amelie' bow from She's Parisian for this. It screams 'pretty Springtime' but I can wear it in all weathers.
