Three Basics You Need in Your Wardrobe

There are three basic pieces in my wardrobe that I come back to almost every time I put an outfit together. While they are simple, they have the ability to pull together a look together and make everything cohesive. These pieces are also great to include if you are building a capsule wardrobe. Here are my top three!

The first piece we have is a classic black long sleeved high-neck top. I picked up this one from Dynamite Clothing years ago and have gotten so much wear out of it. I specifically like having a black basic like this that is also cropped because it pairs perfectly with everything. Whether it's denim, linen, or faux leather (like the skirt that I'm wearing here), it will perfectly finish off your outfit. In this look that I've styled, I have a very bold print on the socks that I'm wearing plus faux leather as my bottom, so a simple basic was essential to keep this look modern and clean. I also prefer black for this piece because I know that it won't be see-through unlike white would.

The second piece is a cropped white tank. The biggest problem that I have with white tops is that they are often very thin and transparent, making them almost impossible to wear without layering something else underneath. However, this particular piece is made of a sculpt-knit fabric meaning that it's super thick and not see-through in the slightest. It's also very comfortable and soft, while still being structured.

I wear this piece with everything. It is the number one most worn item in my entire wardrobe. The reason for this is because it layers perfectly under necklines that are too revealing for day-to-day wear, plus is a great top to wear under cardigans and button ups. It also stands alone as a perfect basic to pair with any bottom. In this look, I've styled it up with tailored pants and a pearl bag. It keeps the streetwear style of the outfit consistent and doesn't diminish the look at all. I also love that the textured ribbing adds further detail.

The third wardrobe essential is a classic pair of blue denim. These will never go out of style and you need a pair that will last you a long time. I picked out these Levi's midrise, medium wash, straight leg jeans years ago and haven't stopped wearing them since. The rise, wash, and leg style stand the test of time because they are the perfect middle between all of the trends that pop up. Plus, a truly great pair of denim should feel comfortable and give you confidence when wearing them, and these do that perfectly. Find the perfect pair by trying on in store and you won't need to shop for denim for years to come!
