This chocolate and vanilla soap is easy to make melt and pour soap. I used cocoa absolute for a natural cocoa scent and vanilla essential oil. I also used real cocoa powder for a natural colorant.

I also added coconut oil to boost lather. You can learn more about how to increase lather in melt and pour soap in the original blog post.

You will need:

Start by cutting the soap into 1 inch cubes. Divide them evenly between two measuring cups. Heat in 30 second bursts in the microwave until melted. Stir between each interval.

Add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil to each measuring cup and stir well.

Add the vanilla essential oil to one cup and stir.

Add the cocoa powder and cocoa absolute to the other cup. You can mix the cocoa with rubbing alcohol to reduce clumps. I don't mind the small clumps, so I just added it.

Pour pour a little bit of one of the soaps on one side or corner of the mold. Wait about 10 seconds and pour the other one on the other side so they overlap. Keep repeating to create layers. You can microwave the soap for 10 seconds if it gets too firm to pour. Spray with rubbing alcohol as needed if the soap sets up.

Let it cool for 4 hours and then unmold. Use the soap cutter to make 4 bars of soap.

I hope you enjoy this fun soap tutorial! These would make great gifts!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound melt and pour soap base
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 6 drops cocoa absolute (you can find this from Mountain Rose Herbs or Etsy)
  • 10 drops vanilla essential oil
  • 4 inch silicone loaf mold
  • Microwave safe measuring cups
  • Wood craft stick or spoon for stirring
  • Spray bottle with rubbing alcohol
  • Wavy soap cutter
Instructions

Cut the soap base into 1 inch cubes. Divide evenly between two measuring cups. Heat in 30 second intervals in the microwave, stirring between each interval. Repeat until melted.
Add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil to each container of melted soap. Stir until melted.
Add the vanilla essential oil to one cup.
Add the cocoa powder to the other cup and then add the cocoa absolute. You can mix the cocoa powder with a small amount of rubbing alcohol to prevent clumps.
Pour a small amount of one of the soap bases into the bottom of the soap mold. Don't cover the entire bottom. Let cool for a few seconds.
Then pour a small amount from the other cup on the opposite side, overlapping slightly.
Repeat pouring, alternating between vanilla and cocoa. Spray rubbing alcohol as needed if it starts to set up. You can reheat the bases for 10 seconds if needed.
Once you've poured all of the soap, sprinkle cocoa powder on top if desired. Let the soap cool for four hours. Then unmold and cut into 1 inch bars with the wavy soap cutter.
