In this DIY, I’m going to show you how to make an upcycled bolero from a thrifted scarf.

If you love transforming items of clothing into completely different things, this is for you.

Make sure you have a scarf in a stretchy material, and let’s jump on in!

Tools and materials:

  • Long scarf
  • Tape measure
  • Clips
  • Sewing machine
Measuring arm

1. Measure arm

Measure the length of your arm.

Measuring and clipping scarf

2. Measure and clip scarf

Then mark the length of each sleeve from the ends of either side of the scarf. I went with 20 inches (51cm) for each sleeve.

Clip the two long sides of the scarf together to enclose them in a sleeve.

You will end up with a thin piece of folded scarf, and you might be thinking about how the sleeves are supposed to fit on your arm.

That’s why you want to use a stretchy fabric so that you have enough space.

Sewing

3. Sew

Sew down where you’ve clipped with a zigzag stitch to get the optimal stretch possible.

I am digging how this upcycled bolero turned out!

The fluffy texture on the scarf works perfectly with my outfit, and this was such a simple DIY to do that required very little effort.
