You Won't Believe This Magical Transformation - Coat to Cute Jacket!
Do You Have a Coat that Sits Not-So-Patiently in Your Closet...It is Tired and Oh So Heavy and All But Forgotten...
Maybe it's Ready for a Trim - Ready to Be Flirty and Kicky and Oh So Cute!
The Coat to Jacket Transformation...With One Cut! And a Bit of Trim!
Let's Go!
My Faux-Camelhair Coat...it was a good staple to wear over a dress...originally from Old Navy...No lining...Pockets...Snap closures.
But Time for a Trim...
I wanted to keep the pockets, so I measured the cut line at the bottom of the pockets...
This was the place to CUT...the scary part(!)
Cut in a Flash...the extra piece is for a memory quilt of corporate clothes that I am ready to part with...but that's another story.
See Hometalk...LINK HERE.
Short and Kicky...but now for the Magic!
Snip off the Bottom Snap to make room for placement of the Trim...
Time to Add the Trim.
Double Sided Bias Tape will Clean Up the cut edge and Give the Jacket Some Kick.
Double-Sided Bias Tape (1 Inch)...in Black...Amazon LINK.
Pin the Bias Tape to the hem of the jacket...
I decided to really bump it up and added some bias tape to the collar edge...
Sew the Trim...
Slow and Steady...
The hem trim...front of the jacket...
And Inside the Jacket.
The Finished Jacket in the Middle of a Spring Wind Storm...Perfect!
Before: Long and Bulky Coat...
Middle: Cut...Cropped...Jacket...Ready for some Trim.
After: So Very Short and Sassy!

I love it! What will you do with the long piece that you cut off? That is a mystery that I want to know! 😍
Hi Debra...oh(!) I'm so glad you asked...I am creating a memory quilt of 6 inch squares from the clothes that I no longer need to wear for my corporate attorney job...sweaters, coats, skirts, dresses...I picked my favorite fabrics...I have cut the squares, and now have to sew it all together...check it out here on Hometalk:
