9 Steps to Creepy Halloween Nails Inspired by the Momo Challenge
In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to make creepy nails based on the Momo-challenge—a dangerous internet challenge supposedly borne from a special effects statue of a creepy chicken, though the challenge has nothing to do with the statue at all. If you’re looking for scary nail art or gothic nail art ideas, this is a great nod to the viral internet game and its spooky figurehead. Let’s get started.
Tools and materials:
- Anti-yellowing base coat
- Nude nail polish
- Black nail polish
- Red nail polish
- White nail polish
- Dotting tool
- Acetone
1. Apply base coat
Apply a clear base coat to clean, prepped nails.
2. Apply black nail polish
Once the base coat has dried, cover the nail entirely with black nail polish. Apply two coats to ensure the color is opaque. Do this for each nail except for the thumb.
3. Apply nude nail polish
Apply the nude nail polish to the thumb.
4. Write the letters
While the other hand dries, use the dotting tool to write the letters MOMO on each of the four black-colored nails using red nail polish. Let it dry.
5. Add black dots
For the final nail, use the dotting tool to add two black dots to signify the eyes of Momo.
6. Add white dots
Add white dots on top of the black dots.
7. Add more black dots
Finally, add one more black dot on top of the white dot to finish off the eyes.
8. Finish the face
Use a small brush and black nail polish to draw the nose and mouth to complete the Momo face.
9. Apply a topcoat
Finish the nails with a topcoat.
