Super-Quick Curly Hair Night Routine: How to Protect Curls at Night
Today, we’re going to get into my curly hair night routine. This has been highly requested, so I’m finally going to tackle it today and show you guys three major things: how to get your hair to last super long, how to make your hair smell good as the days go on, and how to elongate and keep your curls frizz-free and intact.
Tools and materials:
- Hair growth oil
- Conditioner
- Hair tie
- Spoolie
- Body and home spray mist
- Headscarf
- Satin pillowcase
1. Scalp massage
I’m going to start by giving myself a scalp massage with hair growth oil. I’m using about five or six drops and massaging it into my scalp. Scalp massages help stimulate our scalps and promote hair growth and shine. I do this every night for about 2-5 minutes.
2. Re-curl
I look for any frizzy pieces in my hair and I just finger coil them. To do this, I take my favorite conditioner and rub some of it in my palm. Then, I take a piece of hair, work the conditioner into it, finger coil it back to a curl, and scrunch after.
3. High puff
Next, I’m going to use a hair tie to make a high puff. A lot of people put their puff in the front of their head, but I keep mine towards the back because I have a looser curl pattern in the back of my head. I find that when I put my puff to the front, it stretches out the curls even more and makes my hair look uneven.
After it’s tied, I just pull out my curls so I look like one of those mushrooms off of Mario.
4. Oil edges
I’m gonna take a spoolie and brush my edges down, and then use that same oil from before to massage my edges so they can grow nice and long.
5. Body and home spray mist
This step is really weird, but it works and makes my hair smell heavenly. It’s this amazing smelling body and home spray mist, and whenever I wear it, I get compliments everywhere I go. So I like to spritz this spray all over my hair and on my crown.
6. Wrap the base
This next part is crucial! I take my favorite headscarf and I wrap it around the base of the ponytail/puff. This keeps all of your curls in place and reduces frizz around your crown area. If you have a satin head scarf, that would be the best option. After wrapping it around the base, tie it once towards the front and pull it tight.
Then take each side, cross them around the back, and then tuck it into the side. If you’re someone that suffers from your head scarf falling off at night all the time like me, then you can take a few bobby pins and just secure it to your edge area. Not too rough that our edges fall off
7. Sleep on a satin pillowcase
Another super crucial step if you want to know how to protect curly hair at night is to sleep on a satin pillowcase. It doesn’t have to be silk; satin is fine. Sleeping on cotton will suck the moisture out of both your skin and your hair, so you want something light and something that doesn’t cause friction.
I’ve seen a major difference in my skin from when I slept on cotton versus silk and satin. My skin glows and my hair isn’t frizzy. This is the one thing you need out of this whole tutorial - you have to buy a satin pillowcase.
That’s pretty much my whole curly hair night shower routine. I don’t re-wet my hair every day; I don’t even do a refresh every day unless it’s humid outside. I’m going to hit the hay and show you guys what my hair looks like in the morning and how I get it ready for the day!
8. Take hair down
First thing in the morning, I take my hair out of the scarf and the ponytail and just give it a little shake.
9. Scalp massage
Then, I just go in with a pump or two of that same oil and massage my scalp a bit more. You can never have too many scalp massages.
10. Do your edges
After my massage, I just do my edges. I’m not a big edge person at all, I just like to not have them directly in my face.
11. Pick
Next, take your hair pick. I usually coat it in my growth oil, but I’m using it dry today and just picking out my hair.
12. Re-curl frizzy pieces
If there are any frizzy pieces, I just take a conditioner and recoil them like I did the night before.
13. Elongate curls
Finally, I’m just going to pull against my curls to elongate them a little bit. You can use a blow dryer at your roots, but I don’t like to.
Curly hair night routine
That’s my whole curly hair night routine. It’s nothing intricate or crazy and doesn’t take too long. This routine helps my curls last from day five and sometimes to day eight if I’m really lucky.
I hope you guys take one thing from this tutorial and apply it to your own routine, but it’s okay if you don’t because we’re all different! Let me know down below what your night routine looks like!
